Who Put Bella in the Wych Elm? Is graffiti that started appearing soon after a 1947 unsolved murder on April 18th 1943 four boys were hunting for small game and bird eggs in Hagley Wood when they came across a human skull placed inside a witch hazel tree. The victim was never identified. In 1944 the first graffiti message related tot he mystery appeared on a wall in upper street birmingham reading "Who Put Bella in the Wych Elm? The Graffiti was last sprayed onto the side of a 200 year old obelisk in August of 1999.
